Banana curves are usually used in projects. When a project is scheduled, tasks are planned using early start and early finish. It is also planned using the late start and late finish.
An early start is the earliest possible date on which the project tasks can possibly begin
The late start is the latest date when the activity can start
Similarly,
The early finish is the earliest possible date on which the project tasks can possibly finish
The late finish is the latest date when the activity can finish
There is scheduling software that can calculate these dates.
Curve calculated from the early start and early finish dates are called early S curve while curve calculated from the late start and late finish date is called the late S curve. When these both curves are plotted on each other, they overlap at the beginning and end of the project, producing a banana shape curve, known as “Banana Curves”.
If we feed the actual project data into the schedule, the actual line should lie somewhere in the middle of the banana curve.
