Established in 1874 in Switzerland, Schindler is one of the world’s leading provider of escalators, elevators, moving walks, and its complete modernization and maintenance solutions.

The dedicated team of highly skilled knowledge workers strive to develop high-quality mobility solutions and smart and sustainable spaces for urban living. We are on a mission to change the way people see urban landscapes – with the help of dedicated people and leading technology by connecting horizontal and vertical transport systems and hence helping shape the future, today. I’ve been a part of this mission since 2006 when I joined Schindler Australia as a Quality Engineer and I’ve never seen Schindler losing its focus of being unorthodox yet consumer-centric.



The Group, today, is a global powerhouse having more than 1000 branches in over 100 countries as well as production sites and research and development centers in the US, Brazil, Europe, China, and India. Schindler’s products are currently deployed in many well-established buildings around the world, such as airports, shopping centers, malls, metros, specialty, and office buildings.

About Schindler India

Schindler India is a 100% owned subsidiary of the Schindler group. We entered the Indian market in the late 1990s on the back of the international success of our elevators business in the western markets. As the Group turned into the world-class technology leader in elevators, it decided to establish the business in the second-fastest-growing Asian market – India, with Silvio Napoli as the MD of the Indian company.

We were the first multinational company to have an elevator and escalator manufacturing plant in the country as well as a corporate R&D Centre and in-house academy in Pune.

In 2019, after I was promoted to the position of President & CEO at Schindler India, we launched the new brand campaign “We Elevate” on completion of 20 years of Indian operations. Through this campaign, the Group has defined the new vision that it yearns to achieve, i.e., safety for employees, creating value for customers, commitment for people development by practicing green strategies, developing integrity and trust among stakeholders, and aiming for the original Swiss quality.

 Products Portfolio

To provide the optimal urban mobility solution that’s efficient and sustainable, the company offers a product portfolio through three main divisions:

  • Elevators – Vertical mobility is at the core of the group’s product offerings. From big to small, low-rise to high-rise, heavy to light, we offer standardized as well as fully customizable elevators. For passenger & goods elevators, we have models such as Schindler 3100, Schindler 3300, Schindler 5500, and Schindler 7000 in the place whereas, for freight elevators, we have Schindler 2600.
  • Escalators – Schindler Is a trusted brand when it comes to managing masses of people in moving up or down in shopping malls or other public places. Be it Schindler 9300 that rises to 20 m or Schindler 9700 that rises to 50m, we have got every building covered
  • Moving walks– Be it horizontal or vertical distance, our moving walks let people walk comfortably and cover more considerable distances without any hassle. With Schindler 9500AE for inclined distances and Schindler 9500 for horizontal distances, we provide a comprehensive moving walk solution to our clients, which makes us loved all around the world.

Factors that led to Schindler’s unprecedented growth

  • Rapid Urbanization – The advancing urbanization is the leading global driver of our business. With the urbanization already taking place at a significant rate and the urban population expected to increase by the two-thirds by the middle of the 21st century, 43 cities will have more than a population of 10 million to reside. With such staggering numbers, there is a growing need for quick, efficient, and secure urban mobility solutions that also helps make the high-rise locality easily accessible and pleasant to live.



  • Long term strategic focus – The group’s focus is on generating sustained long-term value for the company’s shareholders. To realize this objective, we inculcate a practice of continued innovation to get better at operational efficiency, which ultimately leads to more satisfied customers. For instance, the modularity of elevators is a major effort to increase operational efficiency for our customers. The fewer components we use, the product will get less complex. Also, it will lead to more standardization, which will reduce the raw material cost and bring the economy of scale to the operations.
  • Innovation – Schindler has been at the forefront of introducing innovations in the elevators and escalators industry. We are seamlessly expanding intensive research facilities to increase the horizon of innovation. We are also the leaders in the development of the Internet of Elevators and Escalators (IoEE). By actively investing in the startups working in Artificial Intelligence, we are laying a strong groundwork to capture the full force of technology in the industry.
  • Core values – Schindler’s core value of the security, quality, integrity and trust, value for customers, and people development is the guiding force behind every decision we make. These core values provide us a way to move forward and make decisions within the best interest of company.

Schindler Ahead

Ashok ‘Ash’ Ramachandran is currently the CEO & President of Schindler India-South Asia. An Industrial Engineer by qualification, at 39, Ash is one of Schindler Group’s youngest Presidents ever. Ash is extremely fond of music (a trained Carnatic classical singer himself), running and spending time with young, starry-eyed talents, who he believes can change the world’s tomorrow. Among his many recognitions, he is the recipient of the coveted Economic Times 40UnderForty title which he won in 2019.

  1. Now that I think about it, my apartment has Schindler’s elevators. Even my bachelor’s hostel and my college have Schindler’s elevators.
    This company has influenced so much of our lives—the random run in after evening playtime when we were kids, the sprint to the elevator in college, the overcrowded morning elevator runs! It is amazing how we don’t even realise what has always been there.

  2. Wonderfull achievement keep up the hard efforts to take the Schindler Group forward.
    Myself have been involved with Schindler for past 40yrs and is currently still active doing their installations ie.elevators and escalators as an outside vendour(subcontract)in the Republic of South Africa.

  4. I love and believe in Schindler, keep up the good work, not really happy with a few installations I have come across lately, I think the standard of installations has dropped, maybe it’s due to the use of subcontractors.
